Air quality initiatives/ programmes

  • The Clean Air for Europe programme (CAFE)
    The Network of Air Quality Reference Laboratories (AQUILA) was set up in 2001 in ISPRA. As a forum for information exchange it's objectives are to promote the harmonisation of air quality measurements and participate in standardisation activities as well as to co-ordinate quality assurance and quality control activities and to develop common research and pilot projects.

    The main aim of the Forum for AIR quality MODElling (FAIRMODE) is to bring together air quality modellers and users in order to promote and support the harmonised use of modelling practices for the assessment of air quality by EU member countries.

    The initiative Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE) intends to trigger the creation of a European spatial information infrastructure that delivers to the users integrated spatial information services and is based on the Directive 2007/2/EG of the european Parliament and the Council.

  • SEIS
    The Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS) is a collaborative initiative of the European Commission and the European Environment Agency (EEA) to establish together with the Member States an integrated and shared EU-wide environmental information system based on technologies such as the internet and satellite systems.

  • GMES
    The GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) - is a European initiative for the implementation of information services dealing with environment and security.

    The European environment information and observation network (Eionet) consists of the EEA, five European Topic Centres (ETCs) as well as a network of around 900 experts from 39 countries and aims to provide timely and quality-assured data, information and expertise for assessing the state of the environment in Europe and the pressures acting upon it.

    SIM-air is a simple user-friendly tool in MS Excel that enables stakeholders to apply an integrated analytical approach to AQM with data that is easily accessible and provides a framework to develop a systematic knowledge base.

    Travelfootprint is a UK project that enables you to compare the lifecycle environmental impacts of the main methods of passenger travel in country. It also allows a detailed emissions comparison of cars available since 2001.
